Celebrating Women’s Day

On Women’s Day, we bring to you the thoughts of some of the WEBO Power team members on what this day means to them.

I strongly believe that the true significance of this day is not just a few women being empowered, but rather a majority being able to enjoy an environment of inclusion, equality, opportunities and an end to discrimination and violence. Gloria Steinman, a famous proponent of the feminist movement has said, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” I also believe that this year we must resolve that it is “Time for action to end violence against women”

The International Women’s Day is a day for me to celebrate the fact that I’m a woman, an independent woman, who cares, loves, feels and works hard to be happy and successful. Moreover, I believe, “Behind every successful man there is a woman.” So, let us celebrate this International Women’s Day as a day to remind ourselves how strong we are as women and how much we do not regret to be born as one.

Remembering John Lenon’s immortal words — ‘Imagine there’s no countries, no greed or hunger and a brotherhood of man. You may say I’m a dreamer! But I am not the only one. I hope some day you’ll join us and the world will be as one.’
For me, Women’s Day is an opportunity to reach out to as many women and reaffirm to them of their inherent limitless potential. WEBO Power is a dream to connect a multitude of women entrepreneurs and inspire a million others across the globe to cut past the self created boundaries and rise up to freedom! Freedom to work, freedom to express, freedom to believe in themselves!

Women are the Sun of the house. They are bright and shining as the Sun. With their warmth, they keep the family together. With their intelligence, they bring up their children to become better human beings of tomorrow. With their compassion, they help people within and outside the family. I salute women for what they are.

This Women’s Day actually makes me more conscious of being a woman, than ever before, as there have been two major incidents that have jolted me, and not just me, the country and humanity as a whole. The first being the shooting of Malala Yusufzai, a Pakistani girl of 14 years, who was shot in the head for propagating education of the girl child. Second, the Delhi gang rape a couple of months back. There must be an end to such incidents and we must march towards an era that celebrates womanhood, gives women an equal footing in society and respect as a human being.

As a fiercely independent woman and a strong believer in self-reliance, this Women’s Day I salute all woman who play their part, large or small, to make a mark in the lives of their families, men and at work.
